Perfect Day Surf School, Strandhill, Sligo is now up and running again and looking forward to the 2010 surf season. Weather and surf conditions have favoured the beginner surfer recently with small waves and sunny conditions. At Perfect Day we run small group and individual surf classes. We have a unique one instructor to five surfers as opposed to one to eight at other schools. This unique ratio maximises the safety, coaching and fun aspects of lessons at Perfect Day. Our surf classes are kept small so you as a learner surfer dont get lumped into a huge group of other beginners. Our emphasis is on Quality of service to you the customer. Mahalo

The first tip I would give to any beginner is to take a few surf lessons at an I.S.A approved surf school, like Perfect Day Surf School, Strandhill. Preferabley somewhere where you will receive coaching in a structured small group lesson. Little to be gained from being stuck with twenty other beginners in a surf lesson.
Once you mave mastered the basics and are aware of potential dangers etc, you may be keen on getting your own equipment. At this stage is is critical that you get a surfboard that is going to suit you and aid your progress. Being sold a board that does not suit your size, weight and athletic ability will lead to frustration and annoyance. Seek advice from someone who knows what they are talking about.

Surf conditions at Strandhill remain small and gentle . Winds mainly from an Easterly direction with days cold but sunny. The week ahead looks similar, small waves but fun to be had. Ideal conditions for beginners to get the valued water time practice in. Mahalo, Live the Spirit.

Winter surfing is a totally different ball game to summer time. The most important thing about surfing these cold, dark wintery days is your equipment.
A good quality Winter wetsuit is essential. Head protection is essential as body heat is lost rapidly through the head without a Hood or Hat. We all hate those ice cream headaches.
Some surfers prefer a suit with hood attached and some dont. Its personal preferance. Gloves abd boots are also essential although again some people dont like wearing gloves.
A Gath helmet or somthing similar gives you extra warmth and most importantly protection against heqd injury from rocks or surfboards. A helmet for surfing is a very wise investment.
Surf conditions are generally more extreme in winter. The swells are more powerfull. Water is colder and the air is much colder.Make sure you have a board that you can paddle well. RTemember you are a bit more bulked in neoprene than in summer.
Finally for now know your limitations. Please only surf at breaks you are confident and capable of handling. If you surf places that are too advanced for you, then you not only put yourself at serious risk but also fellow surfers. Serve your time at the easy breaks then advance when you are ready
Hopefully winter is on the way back as the days slowely stretch.
Mahalo, Stay Safe and enjoy your surfing.
